About RFTUV
Reporting from the Uncanny Valley is an independent news outlet covering the Hudson Valley, published by Willow Brook and Monarch LLC.
The newsroom covers Dutchess County and the mid-Hudson region. That includes local news and a nightly police blotter, elections and county government, and reported features. Alongside that local work, RFTUV covers national stories on technology and artificial intelligence. The question underneath both beats is the same: what is real, and what only looks real.
The name carries the mission in miniature. The valley is a real place with real news, and it is also where a lot of the country's strangest stories and newest machines meet.
Programming
RFTUV publishes articles, but the work extends beyond text. The newsroom produces several podcasts: The Briefing is a daily news briefing; the flagship reporting show covers the newsroom's original reported work; and Dead Air Valley is a podcast of reported features and storytelling. The network's programming runs on a 24/7 web TV stream, carrying the podcasts and reported work around the clock.
The Team
RFTUV is a small newsroom of reporters and editors. Who does what, and what each person covers, is on the team page.
The Newsletter and Tips
The Week in the Valley is a weekly roundup of Hudson Valley news. It covers the stories that mattered, the ones still developing, and the ones that did not get enough attention the first time around. Each issue pulls together the week's local reporting, including anything significant from the police blotter, county government, and ongoing features. Readers can reach the newsroom and send tips through the contact page.
How We Report
Stories are built from named sources and primary documents. Crime reporting carries a presumption-of-innocence line. The police blotter runs every night; RFTUV follows cases through to their outcomes, not just the arrest or the initial charge. Election coverage is built from candidate records and official sources, not campaign claims. When the site gets something wrong, the correction runs where readers can see it.
RFTUV covers what is happening in the Hudson Valley and the forces changing the world beyond it, with the care those subjects require.
