Hyde Park: Prospero Arrested After Hospital Release
Hyde Park police arrested Daniel Prospero, 54, of Hyde Park, on Tuesday, closing the loop on the Haviland Middle School scare. Prospero was first detained Sunday under state mental-health laws and taken for a hospital psychiatric evaluation; police arrested him following his release. Earlier this month he was seen riding a bicycle on the Haviland Middle School grounds while students were present, and he rode off when approached. Officers who located him nearby said he was wearing a bulletproof vest, carried a knife, and had two rifle magazines, one of them loaded. No firearm was found. Police obtained a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order and searched his home and the nearby woods. He is charged with six felony weapon-possession counts, plus misdemeanor trespass and weapon charges. Prospero was arraigned in Hyde Park Justice Court and released to the supervision of Dutchess County Probation with electronic monitoring. Police stressed there is no threat to public safety.
The arrest did not end the argument over the district's handling of the original incident. Hyde Park parents are petitioning for the superintendent's resignation over the decision not to lock down the schools. The petition stood at 165 signatures as of Tuesday morning, and the October 8 board meeting drew heavy parent turnout.
Town of Clinton: Motorcyclist Airlifted After Crash With Tractor-Trailer
State Police say a 16-year-old Poughkeepsie rider, Noah J. Ali, lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle on Hollow Road in the Town of Clinton at about 3:40 p.m. Monday and struck a southbound tractor-trailer. Ali was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries. The truck driver was not hurt. Hollow Road was closed for about two hours, and the investigation is ongoing.

Follow-Up: Wappingers Falls Luring Report Back in Print
A Hudson Valley Post roundup on Tuesday recirculated the earlier Wappingers Falls report: a gray SUV driver allegedly offered money to lure an elementary student who had just gotten off a school bus. The student got home safely, and the district is working with State Police. The roundup's new reporting concerned Scarsdale, in Westchester County, where patrols were increased after students reported a white van. No link between the Scarsdale reports and the Wappingers Falls report has been indicated.
That is Tuesday's blotter: an arrest closing the loop on the Haviland Middle School scare, a young rider airlifted with serious injuries, and an earlier report back in circulation with no new incident attached to it.
