East Fishkill / Southeast: Taconic Pursuit; 5,455 Grams of Suspected Fentanyl Seized

On Monday, October 19, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., New York State Police in Stormville attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2012 Nissan traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of East Fishkill. The driver failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued eastbound on Interstate 84.

During the pursuit, the vehicle's driver's side tire failed, causing the vehicle to become disabled. The vehicle ultimately came to rest on Carmel Avenue in the town of Southeast, Putnam County.

The sole occupant, identified as Tyrike Gibbs, 36, of Brooklyn, New York, was taken into custody without further incident. State Police K9 Wild conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and provided a positive alert for the odor of narcotics. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle revealed approximately 5,455 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Gibbs was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree (Narcotic Drug, 8 Ounces or More), a class A-I felony; Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (Narcotic Drug with Intent to Sell), a class B felony; and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, a class A misdemeanor.
