Halloween Lands on a Saturday: Dutchess County’s Events, Curfews and Trick-or-Treat Guide for 2026

By June Mercer | October 28, 2026

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, which means families across Dutchess County have the rare luxury of a full weekend to plan around it. If you are waiting for your town to tell you exactly when the kids can go door to door, stop waiting. No Dutchess County municipality has published official trick-or-treat hours for 2026. Four towns have published curfews for unaccompanied minors. The rest of the picture is made up of organized events, trunk-or-treats, and a handful of adult celebrations worth circling on the calendar.

Curfews: What Four Towns Have Put in Writing

The most concrete official action taken by Dutchess County municipalities this Halloween season has been the enforcement of youth curfew laws. According to Hudson Valley Country, which reported on seventeen Hudson Valley towns announcing Halloween curfews, four Dutchess County towns have enforceable restrictions on minors in public spaces during the Halloween window.

Town of Fishkill carries perhaps the broadest window of the four. Anyone under 18 must be off public streets and public areas from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on October 30, October 31, and November 1. Fishkill's ordinance has been on the books since October 16, 1997, and is independently confirmed on the town's own website.

Town of Wappinger has a permanent Halloween curfew, with minors under 18 out of public areas from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on October 30 and October 31.

Town of Pleasant Valley mirrors Wappinger's start time but runs later into the morning: under 18, off public areas from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on October 30 and October 31. Pleasant Valley's curfew law was adopted in 2008.

Town of Rhinebeck (applying outside the Village of Rhinebeck only) takes a tiered approach by age. Children age 10 and younger must be off public streets by 8 p.m. Minors ages 11 to 17 have until 11 p.m. Both groups face the restriction through dawn on November 1.

Hudson Valley Country notes that most of these laws include exceptions for minors accompanied by a parent or guardian, and that many also carve out exemptions for employment, emergencies, and supervised activities. The specifics vary by town, so families should check their local ordinance directly. Neither Pleasant Valley nor the Town of Rhinebeck published any official trick-or-treat hours alongside their curfews, only the restrictions themselves.

Towns That Published Nothing

Several municipalities in Dutchess County had no official 2026 trick-or-treat hours and no verified town-run Halloween-week event as of this writing. That list includes the City of Poughkeepsie (where events are venue-run, not municipal), the Village of Rhinebeck, the Town of LaGrange, Dover, the Village of Millbrook (whose own October calendar carries no October 31 Halloween listing), Tivoli, Millerton, and the Town of North East. East Fishkill has no town-run event verified; the venue events in Hopewell Junction listed above are privately organized.

Safety and Enforcement

State and local law enforcement agencies are increasing patrols through Halloween weekend, with a focus on impaired and reckless driving. Governor Hochul's office announced that the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee funded campaign runs from Sunday, October 25, through Saturday, October 31, 2026, adding DWI patrols and sobriety checkpoints across the state.

The enforcement surge follows sobering statistics. During the 2025 Halloween campaign, officers statewide issued 44,545 citations, including 1,210 for impaired driving and 8,701 for speeding, according to the same Governor's announcement.

Pedestrian safety is the other critical concern. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration counts 176 people killed in crashes involving drunk drivers on Halloween night between 2019 and 2024. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that children ages 4 to 8 were ten times more likely to be struck by a vehicle on Halloween than on other evenings. The New York State Sheriffs' Association warns specifically that children may run between houses in dark clothing that is difficult for drivers to see. Those figures were reported by Hudson Valley Country.
