Kingston Mayor Steven Noble will not run for a fourth term. Noble announced the decision Thursday in a statement emailed to reporters and posted to his official Facebook page. He has led city government for 12 years.

Noble called it "a deeply contemplated decision arrived upon with my family." He spent months thinking it over before going public. He offered no specific reasons and said he has not settled on what comes next, though he plans to remain connected to Kingston.

A fourth four-year term would have put his tenure at 16 years total. With Noble stepping aside, Kingston will elect a new mayor in 2027.

Common Council Majority Leader Michele Hirsch has already announced a run for the seat. The 2027 race is Kingston's first open mayoral contest in more than a decade.
