The Yonkers Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward in connection with the murder of Guy Van Lew. The reward goes to whoever provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza issued the appeal on Friday, November 6, in a formal news release. Both lohud and The Yonkers Ledger reported the offer.
Van Lew was shot and killed near Spruce and Cliff streets in Yonkers on the night of July 17, 2021, at approximately 9:15 PM. More than five years have passed since the killing. The case has never been solved, and no arrests have been made. Police say the identity of the shooter remains unknown, and the whereabouts of that person are also unknown. The Detective Division's Major Case Squad has investigated since 2021, and investigators continue to work the case.
The $10,000 payout is conditional on more than a tip. The information provided must lead to both an arrest and a conviction. Sapienza's news release asked anyone who knows something about the killing to reach out to police.
The Detective Division can be reached by phone at 914-377-7724. Tips can also be submitted by texting "YPD" followed by the information to 274637.
