Clinton Corners: East Clinton Fire District Budget Hearing Set for October 20

By June Mercer | Local News | Stanfordville

The East Clinton Fire District Board of Commissioners will hold a public budget hearing on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the district firehouse on Firehouse Lane in Clinton Corners. The hearing concerns the district's 2027 Preliminary Budget. Commissioners will then hold a special meeting immediately after to vote on adopting that budget, according to the Town of Clinton.

Residents who want to see or ask about the fire tax portion of their property bills before it is locked in for 2027 should plan to attend.

What this is

Fire districts are small, independent taxing authorities, separate from the town government, that fund local fire protection. The East Clinton Fire District has its own elected Board of Commissioners, and those commissioners set the district's spending plan each year. That spending plan is paid through a dedicated line on the property tax bills of owners within the district's boundaries.

State law requires fire districts to hold a public hearing on the preliminary budget before commissioners can adopt it. That hearing is the window when residents can sit in the room, look at the proposed numbers, and direct questions to the board. Once commissioners vote to adopt the budget at the special meeting that follows, the figure becomes the tax levy that will appear on 2027 bills.

The 2027 Preliminary Budget is already posted and available for review at clintondcny.gov, the Town of Clinton's official website. Looking it over before the October 20 hearing is the best way to come in with specific questions.
