A newly hired monitor at Farley Elementary School in Stony Point was arrested last week. According to lohud, the monitor had brought a handgun to campus in a bag. The weapon arrived during the school day on Nov. 5. Another district employee alerted Stony Point police. Officers arrested the monitor around 3 a.m. on Nov. 6.

The suspect is a 36-year-old Garnerville resident, employed by the North Rockland school district, lohud reported. Neither police nor the school district identified the person by name.

Prosecutors filed three charges against the monitor, lohud reported. The first is felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The other two are misdemeanors: second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. All three are allegations. The person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

North Rockland schools Superintendent Kris Felicello said the district had terminated the employee. A judge set bail at $15,000 cash or $100,000 bond, lohud reported. The monitor was due to be transported to Rockland County jail. A court date at Stony Point Justice Court was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 10.
